He wakes up, and the world is dim. It is as if the sun has snuffed out.[break][break]
This warrior is no stranger to loss. Loss placed him on this place. Loss tempered him. Loss shaped him. He should be used to this.[break][break]
Yet, he isn’t. Not when his best friend, a man he really, truly thought invincible, has passed. Hoenn seems duller for his passing. Time passes in a blur. He makes a rare request for a smidge of personal time.[break][break]
Just long enough to make a house call. His hand finds the door. Knuckles ring out three clear notes. The gesture is automated, his mind somewhere far away.[break][break]
He tries to look presentable. A bit of water on the face, a trim to hide the fraying ends of his beard, and a concerted effort to have good posture are all bits of his effort to look presentable. Kyle was his friend, but he was Noah’s husband. They were supposed to share their life together.[break][break]
Navy takes his hat off, placing it over his heart.[break][break]
“I’m sorry, Noah.” The words cross a tightrope to reach him. He tries to look strong, like there isn’t some inferno inside with nothing to burn.

At times like these, Navy doesn’t know what to say. What can he say to a grieving husband, one who pledged his best and worst days to his fallen friend? What riveting speech can move the dead?[break][break]
No, this calls for action. Navy does the only thing he can think of. Moving to Noah’s side, he hugs his best friend’s husband. It is cold comfort, but he prays it tells Noah that he’s not alone. Though he is no Kyle, perhaps together, they can shoulder the burden of carrying on his absence..[break][break]

And he is beholden, and the words and the alcohol kindle within him a fire that will burn bright in the days to come. There are healthy ways to grieve, but he has not been afforded a life that will allow him that contentment. Just like with Gabe, he won’t stop until his heart burns out of him, its fuel spent and the body destroyed. That will be how he honors Kyle, and only when it is almost too late, deep within the depths of a prismatic prison, will he realize his mistake.[break][break]
The fire burns bright, dancing in his eyes. He looks to Noah, does not shirk away, and nods.[break][break]
“We have to.” It would sound much more inspiring if his nose was clear, if his cheeks were not caked with dried tears. “I won’t let them win, after what they’ve taken from us. From everyone. Not Rocket or any of these gods that fuck with Hoenn.”[break][break]
